چکیده

Continuous Nb wires, 7–15 nm in diameter, have been fabricated by sputter-coating single fluorinated carbon nanotubes. Transmission electron microscopy revealed that the wires are polycrystalline, having grain sizes of about 5 nm. The critical current of wires thicker than ;12 nm is very high (10 A/cm) and comparable to the expected depairing current. The resistance versus temperature curves measured down to 0.3 K are well described by the Langer–Ambegaokar– McCumber–Halperin theory of thermally activated phase slips. Quantum phase slips are suppressed. © 2003 American Institute of Physics. @DOI: 10.1063/1.1592313#

Superconducting Nanowires Templated by Single Molecules

Ultrathin superconducting nanowires (SNWs) can be classified as ‘‘weak superconducting links’’. They have properties in many ways similar to Josephson junctions. Thus, SNWs can find possible applications in superconducting information processing devices: either classical or quantum. Nanowires can also be used as detectors and mixers of microwave radiation. Fundamentally, the SNW is a model syst...

Templated Growth of Carbon Nanotubes on Nickel Loaded Mesoporous MCM-41 and MCM-48 Molecular Sieves

Chemical vapor deposition was employed to synthesize carbon nanotubes with Ni-loaded MCM-41 and MCM-48 as catalysts and acetylene as precursor at 750°C. Mesoporous Ni MCM-41 and Ni MCM-48 molecular sieves were synthesized by a hydrothermal method and were characterized by XRD and N2 adsorption isotherm. The catalytically synthesized carbon materials were characterized with Raman spectroscopy, N...

Photoconductive CdSe Nanowire Arrays, Serpentines, and Loops Formed by Electrodeposition on Self-Organized Carbon Nanotubes

Semiconducting nanowires frequently have enhanced properties and unique functionality compared to their bulk counterparts. Controlling the geometry of nanowires is crucial for their integration into nanoscale devices because the shape of a device component can dictate its functionality, such as in the case of a mechanical spring or an antenna. We demonstrate a novel synthetic method for making ...

Carbon nanotubes encapsulating superconducting single-crystalline tin nanowires.

Superconducting low dimensional systems are the natural choice for fast and sensitive infrared detection, because of their quantum nature and the low-noise, cryogenic operation environment. On the other hand, monochromatic and coherent electron beams, emitted from superconductors and carbon-based nanostructured materials, respectively, are significant for the development of electron optical sys...

Prospects for nanowire-doped polycrystalline graphene films for ultratransparent, highly conductive electrodes.

Traditional transparent conducting materials such as ITO are expensive, brittle, and inflexible. Although alternatives like networks of carbon nanotubes, polycrystalline graphene, and metallic nanowires have been proposed, the transparency-conductivity trade-off of these materials makes them inappropriate for broad range of applications. In this paper, we show that the conductivity of polycryst...
